We will be learning Dr. Lee Ying-Arn's Modified Tai Chi for Health.
Lee Ying-Arng was one of the earliest teachers to communicate the art of tai chi into the English language. His original text "Lee's Modified Tai Chi Chuan for Health" was first published in 1968. In the introduction according to Dr. Fred M.A. Wu, PhD:
"This new form of Tai Chi Chuan developed by Master Lee is actually the essence of the well-known Yang style, but its sequence of movements is organized in a different way. Some of the outstanding features of this new Tai Chi Chuan are as follows:
The sequence of body movements is so well organized and brief that it is much easier to learn and memorize than the classic Yang style.
It accomplishes and harmonizes the philosophy of Yin and Yang from Tai Chi by developing the left and right forms for the individual movements. The classic Yang style, however, does not offer this balance of opposites. For example the Yang style contains only one form - either the left or the right - of 'Single Whip', 'Snake Creeps Down', 'Needle at the Sea Bottom', 'Raise Hand Like Fan', 'Stork Spreads Wings', 'Step Up to Form Seven Stars', etc. In this new system, both left and right forms of each individual movement are incorporated in the smooth and well balanced sequence."
